The strong community based programme at IAVI includes comprehensive communication initiatives to inform, educate and sensitise the media both at national and regional levels on the various complex dimensions of HIV/AIDS, with a special focus on prevention technologies such as vaccines.

The specific objectives of the programme are:

• To be able to maintain transparency at all levels with regards to programme-related communication
• To provide required knowledge and perspective on HIV/AIDS and AIDS vaccines on a regular basis
• To seek support and guidance from the senior media managers of the country
• To enhance the depth of understanding and knowledge regarding the programme, therefore enabling informed reportage
• To create media advocacy at national and state levels, for HIV/AIDS and the vaccines programme
• To activate channels of communication between media and other stakeholders like NGOs, activists, scientists, government and international agencies working on HIV/AIDS and vaccine
